If you haven’t seen the Drepung Loseling monks lay down millions of grains of sand, seemingly one grain at a time, to create a Mandala Sand Painting, now is the time! The sand painting will take place over the course of five days at the Argyros and is free to the public from 11 am to 6 pm daily. This process is truly mesmerizing, so you’ll want to take some time to stay and watch. When the painting is finished, the mandala will be ritualistically dismantled and the sand collected in a jar, wrapped in silk, and transported to a river to be released back into nature.
Step even farther into the sacred traditions of the monks with Sacred Music Sacred Dance on August 3rd. This special performance will combine chanting, music, and dance selections drawn from the temple dances that have been a part of Tibet for thousands of years. Tickets to this event are $35 to $60.
