Horseback Riding

Saddle Up!

What would a vacation in the Idaho mountains be without a horseback riding adventure? In Sun Valley, you will have many options to re-live the days of the old west. It’s time to saddle-up!

Here is what you need to know:

Located just west of Sun Valley Resort on Sun Valley Road is The Sun Valley Stables and Western Horseman’s Center. You’ll have the option for family-friendly guided trail rides up Dollar Mountain, wagon rides and instructions for beginner to intermediate riders The facility is open every day of the week during the summer season. It’s best to call ahead as there are some safety restrictions. Simply give them a call at 208-622-2387 to discover your options.

If you have your own horse, there are endless trails worth exploring in the Sawtooth and Smokey Mountain ranges. Between Trail Creek and North of Ketchum, there are very few places a horse and rider cannot go. As a matter of fact, horses and riders have been known to head right down Main Street upon rare occasion.

Interested in living like a local? Whether riding English or Western, head 30 minutes south of Sun Valley to Bellevue – the Gateway to the Sawtooths! Spend an afternoon at River Sage Stables or Winter Sun Horse Park. Both of these locally owned and managed facilities offer clinics, events, private instructions, arenas and boarding. You can reach Winter Sun Horse Park by calling 208.471.0346 and River Sage Stables by calling (208) 788-4844.

Wait! You want more? If you are seeking a more elaborate and authentic horseback riding excursion into the backcountry, look no further than Stanley’s Redfish Lake Corrals and Mystic Saddle Ranch. There are options for guided single and multi-day adventures throughout the Sawtooth Mountains creating a once in a lifetime, unforgettable experience. Find out more by calling Red Fish Corrals at 208-774-3311 and Mystic Saddle Ranch at 208-774-3591.

Added bonus – Make certain you stop by Smiley Creek Lodge on the way to Stanley and order up their signature handmade milkshake! Welcome to the great outdoors. Let your Idaho adventure begin.
