It’s true! A summer vacation in Sun Valley, Idaho offers not only incredibly beautiful scenery, but an abundance of outdoor activities. There is hiking, fly fishing, river trips and tubing down the Big Wood River. There is outdoor theater, as well as music, wine and art festivals. If you are a mountain bike enthusiast, an adventure in Idaho will land you in the center of a mountain biking paradise!! With the summer sun up until 10 pm nightly, you’ll have easy access to hundreds of miles of groomed mountain bike trails. Whether dropping in or relying on your granny gear, a mountain bike adventure in Sun Valley will quickly put you in the zone. There are gondola rides taking you and your dualie or hardtail bike up Baldy. There are bike rentals, instructions, and guided excursions. Want something different? There are opportunities to head just north of Ketchum to Galena Lodge for lunch and shredding scenic trails that switchback through the Boulders. Whether new to the sport or ready to tackle the gnarl, there are both half and full day jaunts available.
If you prefer a road bike or something a little less “out in the middle of nowhere”, the Wood River Valley has over 30 miles of paved bike trail connecting Bellevue through Hailey, Ketchum, Sun Valley and Elkhorn. There are lookout points like Hemingway’s’ Monument and Boxcar Junction, scattered public water fountains, and park benches along the way. Stop and smell the wildflowers. After all, while vacationing in Idaho, you are on Ketchum time!
