You have perused what to do in and around town. You are on your way – but, are you? Traveling to Sun Valley can be easier than you think. Here is what you need to know.
Direct Flights to Sun Valley
The “Sun Valley Airport” is actually the Friedman Memorial Airport (SUN) in Hailey and is only a quick 15 minutes from Ketchum and Sun Valley, Idaho. Since August 1960, SUN has served the resort communities of the Wood River Valley with scheduled commercial flights. Airlines servicing the SUN airport are Alaska, Delta, and United Airlines. There are non-stop flights from major hubs:
- Salt Lake City (SLC)
- Seattle (SEA)
- Los Angeles (LAX)
- San Francisco (SFO)
- Denver (DEN)
- Chicago (ORD)
- Boise International Airport (BOI) and Salt Lake City Airport (SLC) offer connecting flights to Sun Valley.
Whether booking a connecting flight or a direct flight from a major hub, getting to Sun Valley is easy! While some flights are offered year-round, some are seasonal. It is best to check with the airlines well ahead of time, so you don’t run into any surprises.

Sun Valley Shuttles
If you plan to fly into the Boise airport instead, you may need transportation from Boise to Sun Valley. The Boise Airport site is a great place for information on ground transportation. We also recommend riding with the Sun Valley Express or Idaho Towncar.
Sun Valley Express has a relaxing and carefree Boise to Sun Valley shuttle in both winter and summer. Reserving ahead of time is best. Fares start at $80 for children (under 12 traveling with an adult) and $90 for adults. 2 standard pieces of luggage plus one additional item – can’t leave the skis at home – are allowed per passenger. If you prefer ultimate comfort, Idaho Towncar offers safety, first class service, and door to door transportation from Boise to Sun Valley and back. Getting Around
Mountain Rides is a free bus system that travels around the Ketchum and Sun Valley area. Also goes south to Hailey and Bellevue for just a few dollars.
